Strength and Flexibility

Simply put…. Life gets easier when your body is strong and flexible, and the first step is to start moving! In the privacy of the Your Total Body studio, during one-to-one sessions, you can relax and explore the various pieces of equipment, and the benefits they will bring to strengthen your body. I will guide you through each and every exercise, and teach you the proper form, so that you will finally get the results you have been desiring. There is no time wasted standing waiting for a machine – the whole studio is yours (or you can share with a friend).

TRX1TRX Suspension Training is a workout system for every fitness level, which leverages gravity and your bodyweight to perform hundreds of exercises. Born in the Navy SEALs, TRX was developed to increase strength, balance, flexibility and core stability simultaneously – in a single exercise. You are in control of how much you want to challenge yourself on each exercise on any particular day – because you can simply adjust your body position to increase or decrease how difficult the exercise is. The system is made up of a set of straps which can be anchored to an indoor fixed anchor, or outside to a tree, or any other stable pole or structure. Add your favorite tunes, and in as little as 30 minutes you can get an amazing workout!

Pilates1Do you desire the look of a lean, defined muscle? Or are you recovering from an injury? Pilates is an innovative and safe system of mind-body exercise which can dramatically transform the way your body looks, feels and performs. The Pilates system utilizes a variety of different types of equipment (Reformer, Chair, and Magic Circle) which in turn adds variety to your workouts. Pilates can dramatically transform the way your body looks, feels and performs, by elongating your spine and limbs. Pilates builds strength without excess bulk. It teaches body awareness, good posture and easy, graceful movement. Pilates improves flexibility, agility and economy of motion. It is a great way to help alleviate back pain by stretching the proper muscle groups in the proper movement patterns.

weight-training image[2]Whether your goal it to climb a mountain or just a flight of stairs, everybody at any age needs to do strength training. Whether it’s lifting a 20-pound dumbbell, or a bag of groceries, or your grandchild, you need to strength train. It’s all about exercising smarter – not longer. It’s about weight training using the proper form, to activate the proper muscle groups, in the proper movement pattern to get the results you want! It’s about progressing an exercise to push you a little harder, or regressing that same exercise on any particular day if you need to. It’s about increasing repetitions, or the amount of weight (or both), or combining exercises (supersetting), but only when you are ready to and capable of doing it safely. It’s about keeping your body strong and your confidence high.

SelfMyo1Sometimes before a workout can even begin a muscle or muscle group needs to be stretched, but is restricted due to the fascia being too tight. The fascia is a thin but tough connective tissue that wraps about the muscle, and if it too tight it gets bundled up and the muscle cannot expand, resulting in an adhesion or knot. The muscle needs to be relaxed using a technique called Self-Myofascial Release to improve blood flow and circulation to the affected areas. Utilizing a foam roller or hand-held roller, gentle force is applied to the bundled area thereby straightening it in the direction of the muscle.  It’s not the most fun part of the workout, but the most necessary.

rebounding for strength flexibility[1]Rebounding is the act of basically bouncing on a mini-trampoline. Rebounding became more prominent in the 1980s when NASA verified it as being an effective form of exercise. NASA used rebounding to help astronauts re-mineralize their bodies (build bone density) after being subjected to zero gravity in space due to lack of gravity. Rebounding is a great way to build strength in the leg and core muscles because it has low impact on the joints and spine, which makes it less painful than walking on a treadmill. For seniors, building leg strength and coordination is the best way to avoid a fall, which according to the Center for Disease Control, is the leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries today.

vibration1A Whole Body Vibration machine is a piece of equipment you stand on which vibrates at different levels. This vibration produces muscle contractions, along with using gravitational force on the bones. The benefits of adding vibration sessions to your workouts may include the following:
– Increases Muscle Mass
– Improves Bone Mineral Density and helps protect against bone loss (Osteoporosis)
– Reduces Muscle, and Arthritis and Joint Pain
– Increase flexibility, range of motion, Balance, and mobility
– Improve Circulation – raise blood oxygenation
– Promote Post-Injury Healing through increasing HGH levels
– Decrease Post-Workout Recovery Time
